Project Background Brief:
Dobwalls Football Club were looking to install floodlighting, as part of a complete facilities upgrade, which would allow them to compete in higher-level competitions and play midweek evening fixtures. Dobwalls had originally looked at a metal halide system, but when discussing solutions with the lighting supplier, they opted for LED Modus S Luminaires which are maintenance free and use 50% less energy. Powerplus Group were commissioned to carry out enabling and groundworks, in addition to the full Sports Lighting installation of 6no 15 columns and Modus S LED Football Floodlights.
Particular Challenges:
The existing Electrical power supply wasn’t sufficient for the new floodlighting system to be added, so we liaised with Western Power via the client to obtain an increased power supply to the premises which allowed suitable power for the installation of the new floodlighting system. The Ambulance entrance to the club was located within close proximity to one of the new proposed column locations which was required to remain as per the Lighting Design to achieve FA Football Lighting Standards, so we amended the base finish style of the column to maximise available space between the column and ambulance entrance, which reduced the hazard and allowed safe distance for an ambulance to gain unhindered access in the event of an emergency.
Special Project Features:
Bespoke columns were produced by olighting, which created 15m raise and lower masts with space integrated for the floodlight drivers. This saved the requirement for sarel boxes or enclosures to house the drivers at the base of the columns.
